Selecting an Electronic Book to Read

To select an eBook to read click on New eBook from the menu. If the menu is not showing press the Spacebar, Enter/Return or Esc/Escape key, or double click the Right Mouse Button first to pop it up.

Your operating system's file browser will pop up. Use the file browser to locate and select the text file to read.

CueLine® ED can read in and display text files whose characters are encoded in Unicode UTF-8 or 7 bit US-ASCII. 7 bit US-ASCII is a subset of Unicode UTF-8 and provides the common American English alphabet, numbers, and punctuation. Unicode UTF-8 extends 7 bit US-ASCII and supports the representation of foreign language characters and symbols. Unicode UTF-8 is the current standard for representing symbols and foreign language characters in a computer file and therefore is the assumed character encoding when reading in a text file on your computer.

CueLine® ED does not directly read in word processor or desktop publishing files. Those file formats do not make sense in the context of CueLine® ED's display of a few words on a few lines to aid reading. To create a text file for a student to read, a teacher should use a simple text editor to create the file or export the text from their word processor or desktop publishing program as a plain text file. Paragraphs must be separated by one or more blank lines.

The user can click on Recent eBook from the menu to select between the most recent 20 opened eBooks.
